My Greatest Works
My Greatest Works
words and music by Brian Griffin (12-21-2001)
Feeling like I lost it all
A need to fulfill larger dreams
Looking for that magic moment
That keep escaping from me
Destined to keep repeating
The same patterned ways
Everyday living wears me down
It wears on me everyday
You are my greatest works
My lasting legacy
Long after I leave this place
You’ll carry on for me
When all i do is foolish folly
A joke I’m never in on
You’re always there, ringing true
A sweet ocean of calm
Feeling kinda defeated again
Bogged down in a raging sea
General feeling of no one caring
About what’s happening to me
Then I catch myself and realize
All I do is quiet noise
It’s not the road to true happiness
It’s not the path to joy
And you’re my greatest works
My greatest legacy
It’s obvious and so clear
It’s almost too hard to see
When everything get petty and pointless
You cut through it all you’re so pure
You cleanse the world, you cleanse me
You’re more than I deserve
Feeling hopelessly hopeless again
Tossed about from there to here
Like that song about the butterfly on the highway
no compass no way to steer
But there’s an answer among all the chaos
It’s waiting there for me
Waiting for my to clear my head
Waiting for me to truly see
That you’re my greatest works
The greatest things I’ll ever achieve
Everything else I do falls off the mark
You’re the greatest things to come from me
And when my time here is over
And my body the earth shall receive
I’ll look to you my greatest works
To shine with hope for all to see
